Ty Abshire, Wernle Children's Home, has so much talent that we got him back into our kitchen as the quest chef!

This time, he and Norma Schroeder, our wonderful host, made a delicious BBQ sauce and a variety of salsas.

Basic Salsa

This is a Basic Salsa recipe from which you can use by itself or build from it to make your favorite. See varieties below.

1 C fresh minced tomatoes
1/4 C minced onions
1/4 C minced yellow peppers
1/4 C minced red peppers
1 TBS lime juice
3 TBS cilantro

1 tsp minced jalapeno peppers (or add to taste)
1/2 C orange juice

Mix all, cover, and refrigerate for an hour. From here on out you can add what you want or take away from the above to your liking. It doesn't matter, it's your taste buds you are trying to make happy!

Peach Salsa

Take about 2 cups of basic salsa and add the following:

1/2 C diced fresh peaches
1/2 C diced fresh papaya

Southwest Salsa

Take about 2 cups of basic salsa and add the following:

1/2 C fresh corn (cut right off the cob, uncooked)
1/2 C black beans

Other Ideas

Add any of these ingredients to create a salsa of your own liking:

diced fresh pineapple
minced honey dew or cantaloupe
avocado
banana
cucumbers
eggplant
black eyed peas

You can also use this on fish, chicken or your favorite dish when grilling out.

The "Grandma's Best Grilling Stuff"

This recipe was created with the help from Ty's staff at Wernle Children's Home, "the Grandma's."

2 C of your favorite store boughten BBQ Sauce
1 med. onion, minced
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp. ground ginger or to taste (this is Ty's secret!)
1/2 tsp hot sauce
1 C honey (Ty uses more...the honey helps make
the sauce stick to the meat.)
2 TBS real butter (real butter only, please!!! Don't use
the fake stuff, it's bad for you, trust me!)

In a saucepan, melt the butter and soften the onion. Add the rest of the goods to that and let it set on the back burner for about 45 minutes on low heat. Then put it on your favorite foods.

You can double this and keep a bunch in the refrigerator for sandwiches or baked beans...it also makes the world's best baked beans!

Another idea you can try is adding minced apples....to make a real twist, add marmalade to it....oooooh my, everyone will talk then.......
