We're celebrating 100 Years!

Museum picture of antique fixtures.Wayne County Historical Museum Exhibit

Richmond Power & Light has an exhibit at the Wayne County Historical Museum displaying many old pictures and pieces of equipment. The project was led by Roger Bauer, Distribution Engineer, and Harry Phillips, Energy Services Director. They invited employees and retirees to join in the effort to create an outstanding exhibit that even showcases an RP&L light pole with the original transformer, which is dated 1919.

Richmond Power & Light has been an important part of Richmond's history since 1902. Take time to visit the museum!

Company History

This is a PDF document that was written primarily to record the history of artificial light as it was introduced in Richmond.

It begins with the feeble candle when Richmond became a village in 1810, followed by coal oil, then artificial and natural gas, and finally electricity.

Dave speaking during the ceremony.

City Officials and RP&L CEO, Dave Osburn (pictured), spoke to the families of the deceased who attended the ceremony. RP&L employees, retirees, and other members of the Richmond community had a moment of silence to honor these men.

The reception crowd.

The dedication brought together people who hadn't seen each other for years. Newer employees had a chance to meet retirees who they had only heard names of previously. A reception followed the ceremony where time was spent eating and reminiscing over the past several years.

The ribbon cutting.

All family members of the deceased where asked to participate in the ribbon cutting for the memorial. RP&L was honored to have these people be a part of their 100 Year Celebration and Memorial Dedication.

Richmond Power & Light extends its gratitude to all the people who helped make this a special event.
